Ella French, a police officer, was mourning by hundreds that gathering at a Midwest state chapel on Thursday. The 29-year-old was tragically shot and killing while on duty at a traffic stop, unfortunately, turning violent earlier this month

Ella French Had a Private Service Attended by City Elite

Held at the St. Rita of Cascia Shrine Chapel, the private service, really drew attendance from hundreds of officers and public officials. The many included the “Not so Wonderful” Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, CPD Supt. David Brown, former Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, former police Supt. Garry McCarthy and several others.

Men and women in uniform when on the front outside the church. They can from departments all across the Chicago area. In fact, several waited outside for hours on a very hot August day to pay their respects.

Critically Wounded Officer Carlos Yanez’ Father was in Attendance

French’s partner, Carlos Yanez, who was critically wounding during the shooting is currently recovering in the hospital. His father was in attendance at the funeral. In fact, he brought with him a T-shirt from his son. Poignantly, he was asking if it could be giving to French because he really wanted “a little bit of me to be with her.” How sad and devastating for officer Yanez!

Elizabeth French Made a Traumatic Speech at the Funeral

Elizabeth French, French’s mother, was escorting by Josh Blas. Blas was the third officer who was at the scene of the traffic stop. This was the night the French were killing. Along with Yanez’s father, he was escorting in, too. They stood before the crowded church and told everyone that now she was half her heart. She sincerely thanked the many officers in attendance.

Law Enforcement – Serves and Protects all

“Moreover, I really want to thank each and every one of you for your presence here today at the funeral,” she said. “Ella really would have been honoring. In fact, I especially want to thank all the members of law enforcement that are present. Ella was so humbly proud to be a member of your family. It’s important to remember that every day you leave home to serve and protect family, friends, and people you will never meet in your communities, towns, and cities. Ella and I thank you for your service. I want to God bless you all.”
