The Kia Stinger GT is on its way out. At least that is the rumor that Kia is going to kill this critically lauded but slow-selling sports sedan. Sometime around the 2024 model year, the automaker’s traditional production cycle is going to indicate a second-gen sedan that will appear. The last report out of South Korea was the Sohari plant. It does assemble Stingers that would switch to hybrid and the EV production in Q2 of 2022.

Kia Stinger Spirit’s Remains

Kia design Chief Karim Habig was spoken to at the L.A. Auto Show. This was regarding the chances of an all-new Stinger. He said the spirit of the Stinger will remain. In fact, the EV has the genes of the GT. Moreover, we are going to do a GT of that. Also, it has the Stinger in it. Therefore, the Stinger has been a transformational car. Thus it has opened a totally new perspective as to what Kia can be, sporty, and a precision driving tool. Now, this is EV6 is doing similarity.”

Back in May, Damien Meredith, head of Kia Australia has said: “On many fronts, the Kia Stinger has been really good to us on the many fronts. Moreover, it has given a performance edge to our brand. That is we didn’t have before,” then put the EV6 forward as “the next step in performance sharpness.”

Brand Evolution

In an interview in 2020, Habib said regarding the prior round of Stinger death knells. In fact, Habib has said he does hope that the “spirit of the Stinger” which has remained as the Kia brand does continue to evolve. Moreover, as the technology does go toward EVs and as the globe and its appetite for these types of cars changes, the concept does really have to evolve as well.

Kia EV GT – Latest News

There will not be another Stinger. The car did the job it was designed to do. Unfortunately, it did not sell well. Kia does see the EV6 as the successor to the Stinger with “genes” of a Kia Stinger GT. The EV6 is going to get GT trim, it would be more powerful than the Stinger that was ever provided. The dual-motor, all-wheel-drive EV6 GT does top out at 577 horsepower. There is 546 pound-feet of torque. It would rip off the sprint to 60 miles per hour in 3.5 seconds. The Stinger GT with the twin-turbo V6 does max out at 368 hp and 376 lb-ft. Also, it would need another 1.2 seconds to finish the test to 60 mph.
